Review: Glass Houses by Rachel Caine
Book Description
From the author of the popular Weather Warden series comes the debut of an exciting new series set in Morganville, Texas, where you would be well advised to avoid being out after dark.
College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life, but they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.
Book 1 in The Morganville Vampire Series
Review:
I don’t usually start reviews with a warning, but I wish I’d had one before reading GLASS HOUSES, so here you go: Do not under any circumstances read GLASS HOUSES without having the sequel The Dead Girl’s Dance (or better yet The Morganville Vampires Volume 1 which contains both stories) within easy reach or you might actually scream out loud when you read the last page, then scream even louder when you realize it’s 2am and all the bookstores are all closed. Yep, I did both of those things because the cliffhanger at the end of this book is one of the best/worst that I have ever read.
On the day Claire became a member of the Glass House, somebody stole her laundry. - GLASS HOUSES
A good book can make to sad or happy, laugh or cry (all of which GLASS HOUSES does) but it takes a great book to enrage you. And after reading about how sixteen year old outcast prodigy Claire Danvers became the target of truly vicious bullies at college, I was furious.
From a literal life and death situation at her dorm, Claire finds the Glass House. And inside, she finds friendship, acceptance, and even love. She also stumbles across a mystery regarding her roommate Michael Glass, and a vampire quest that brings every vampire in Morganville to her door.
What did I like about this book? Um, everything. The characters are subtly nuanced and completely believable as college students. The big showdown at the end was a little over the top for me, but even still GLASS HOUSES came so close to a perfect rating from me. It runs the gamut of emotions and I loved every one of them. The Morganville Vampires series has eight books out already. I can’t wait to read them all.
Sexual Content: Kissing. A scene of mild sensuality.
My Rating (out of 5):Excellent - Loved it! Buy it now & pre-order the sequel.

Near Perfect - Buy two copies: one for you and one for a friend. Excellent - Loved it! Buy it now & put this author on your watch list Good - A fun read with minor flaws. Maybe read an excerpt before buying. Okay – A few good points, but with significant flaws. Library/swap/borrow if you want. Poor - I had to force myself to finish it. Fatally flawed on multiple levels. |
